Chuck Burmeister

Graduation Year:
2014

I started yoga because I have Multiple Sclerosis. I'm a 500 HR RYT, UZIT and Reiki Master. Write a weekly blog www.yogachuck.com. Teach group and private yoga classes and healing sessions, hired for company health and wellness events and speaker. Co-produced and starred in the dvd "Real Yoga for Multiple Sclerosis," currently shooting "Yoga for Seniors."

What you are doing now:

I currently teach four Hatha Yoga classes at the Tiffin Community YMCA that includes New Beginner, Level 1, 2 and Open Yoga classes. I teach two classes at the Allen Eiry Senior Center (Chair/Standing/Floor poses). I teach at four Assisted Living Facilities, two locations weekly I spend 45min with Alzheimer's residents and 45min with the other residents. And I teach Yoga at the Tiffin Developmental Center with students that have a large range of intellectual and physical disabilities like autism. I have the most fun teaching this class. I also teach a class called MTM "Moving Toward Mobility," a once-a-month free chair class for anyone injured and/or ill.

What you gained from Yoga on High:

YOHI has taught me the skills to teach Therapeutic Yoga for self care, as well as sharing these skills with others. I love working with people who have limited abilities and sharing what I have learned and experienced through YOHI that can help them to achieve a better quality of life. Marcia Miller and other YOHI teachers/staff have opened doors in my life I never imaged existed. At one point, my life was turned upside down by my Multiple Sclerosis. I declined from working 60+ hours a week as a truck driver and more to being so ill I was on disability for 3 1/2 years before taking myself off. I began Yoga on my own and am thankful for YOHI TT for helping me get to where I am today. Life is good!
